About Me

I started teaching English and Portuguese almost two decades ago.

For over 10 years, I taught at several languages institutes in different countries. During this period, I witnessed students getting better jobs, passing language exams, travelling around the world, communicating with loved ones and expanding their horizons. Being able to guide students on their language learning journey is extremely rewarding to me.

Besides being an enthusiastic language teacher, I am also a Dutch language learner, a podcast listener and a traveller.

To be able to help you out, first we have a 15 min interview. It is free of charge. You let me know why you want to learn Portuguese, your expectations and goals. Then, you take a placement test. After that, I design a course for you. As simple as that.

In 2016 I decided to learn Portuguese. I started by myself with online courses. After a couple of months I knew I needed a teacher to give me feedback on my speaking, and writing. But I also needed a teacher to motivate me and to facilitate my learning process. I have been learning Portuguese with Jama via Skype for 9 months. Jama identified my language level very quickly and our lessons are designed with interesting topics to me. As a new resident in Portugal, I found it difficult to learn Portuguese. Among reasons is the local portuguese pronunciation with words often squeezed. I decided to find a brazilian teacher so as to learn the language through a more distinct pronunciation and bearing in mind that the vast majority of portuguese speakers worldwide are from brazil. Classes with Jama are both efficient and fun. Although fully online, we manage to cover very diverse topics and include rich content such as documentaries, news, documents but also APPS and gaming. My kids are also taking classes with Jama and they enjoy it lots. They are making tremendous progress. I highly recommend Jama for her outstanding teaching skills.
